What's Lambada?
Lambada music originated in Pará, Brazil, where musicians like Joaquim de Lima Vieira and Master Pinduco fused African rhythms with influences from nearby Caribbean and South American countries. In the 1960s, radio broadcaster Aroldo Caraciolo coined the term "Lambada," meaning "whip" or "punch," to describe its energetic beats. This early music, blending styles like cumbia, choro, merengue, and guitarrada, inspired dance movements influenced by African, South American, and European traditions. As the music spread, people in Belém and beyond began dancing to it in their own unique ways, laying the foundation for Lambada as a dance style.

Back in the day in Brazil, Lambada gained national attention as people traveled to Porto Seguro to watch and learn the dance. Venues like Boca da Barra hosted shows, competitions, and lessons, attracting dance teachers from major Brazilian cities. The dance remained a national craze until French entrepreneur Olivier Lamotte d’Incamps formed the music and dance group KAOMA to promote it internationally. With the Dos Santos brothers as dancers, KAOMA’s hit Chorando Se Foi brought Lambada worldwide fame, despite later facing a copyright dispute. Lambada also influenced the development of Brazilian Zouk dance, making them twin siblings. Nowadays, Lambada is danced and taught everywhere in the world, including many Jack & Jills competitions promoted by the Lambada World Dance Council, solo, and strictly competitions.

Fin out what our students have to say about us!
I'm really enjoying the Lambada Study Group classes, they are well structured and have helped me understand lambada timing in a logical way. Oeslle teaches all moves on both sides which is very challenging but so helpful. I like that we focus on just one move or concept in each class, which means we have plenty of time for repetition and guided practice. These classes have really helped me to progress my lambada.

Oeslle is a great teacher with deep knowledge of Lambada’s timing and structure. His classes are incredibly well-organized, with a clear plan set in advance. I really appreciate that the focus isn’t just on learning moves but on understanding the underlying concepts. Another great aspect is how the classes are structured to ensure that students are at a similar level. This creates an excellent learning environment where everyone can fully benefit from the lesson and get plenty of practice. The studio is beautiful, centrally located, and offers plenty of space, mirrors, and a fantastic sound system. If you are looking to take your dance to the next level or start your lambada journey with strong foundations I highly recommend LambaLondon.

I’ve been learning Lambada as part of the Study Group at Lamba London over the last couple of terms and I can say it’s been a perfect way for me to learn. Oeslle brings to each class a wealth of knowledge that he distills down in a clear, structured and detailed way that really helps us break down each movement. In each class I feel we’re not just learning the concepts, but have plenty of time to practice, refine and experiment at a good pace. What I really do appreciate is that he also takes the time to check on each person to provide personal feedback to refine the movements. Overall, it’s a really enjoyable class in a great venue. I highly recommend giving LambaLondon a go!
